Rob’s Story
Circa 1999 Theresa contacted us, and we signed up to protect our rapidly growing business. I was fit, healthy and felt bullet proof. Theresa guided us towards appropriate polices and cost-benefit selections and despite the ups and downs of business we managed to keep the policies in force.
In 2006 after extensive tests I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and severe diverticulitis. The former was at an early stage but the latter was already life-threatening.
Suddenly the prospect of long treatment and recuperation was financially daunting. My insurance made a huge difference to what happened next, not only financially but in terms of retaining control and overall peace of mind.
I went straight into a private hospital for the first of two operations. Six weeks after surgery I was fit enough to go back to work. Having private medical insurance gave me choices and control.
Our policies also provided me with a lump sum payment for serious illness, this saved our capital from erosion. Having funds when we needed it most greatly reduced my anxiety and vulnerability. It allowed me to recover without the added stress of financial worry.
Theresa you set this up for us – thank you. Sovereign thank you for underpinning it all.
Aroha’s Story
My sister Eli wanted life insurance to help provide for her children in case anything happened to her. She was 29 and had six children. When Theresa signed her up she was overweight and she needed to have a blood test before the insurance company would give her the insurance. This was just before Christmas and she didn’t get the blood test done before she went away for the holidays. Just after New Year she died suddenly. We’re all still in shock, nobody expected anything like this. Her insurance policy had not been issued because the insurance company was waiting for her to have the blood test.
After the funeral we got in touch with Theresa to find out if anything could be done. She spoke to the insurance company who confirmed they would pay out because the application had been sent to them with a higher than standard premium quote. Theresa said she knew from experience that Eli’s weight meant her premium would be higher than standard, so she had sent the application to the insurance company with the increased quote. Theresa also spoke to the insurance company about whether they would waive the need for the blood test.
We know that if Eli had applied for insurance on her own without having a broker to take care of things, she would not have had insurance at all. Nothing can make up for my nieces and nephews losing their mum, but the money will make a huge difference in their lives and help the family look after them.
Terry’s Story
When Marc first called us in 2012 I was a bit sceptical, I thought I didn’t need any insurance, being self-employed I’d always worked through any injuries I’d had. Marc was honest and straight to the point and one thing I remember him saying was that my luck may not last for ever, thank goodness I listened and signed up. Last year I had to take time off work to recover from glandular fever; it took nearly eight months. During that time our insurance paid the mortgage plus a monthly amount to keep the family going as well. I don’t know what we would have done without it, maybe lost the house? We’re so pleased that Marc called on us, he did a good job, and I am very happy to recommend him to anyone looking for a broker.
